What we propose

DIGIT is the Directorate-General for Informatics whose aim is to deliver digital services to enable EU policies and to support the Commission’s internal administration. CERT-EU is the Cybersecurity Service for the European Union institutions, bodies, offices and agencies (Union entities). CERT-EU is administratively attached to DIGIT.

In addition, DIGIT.CERT-EU have a strategic role to support the Union entities with the implementation of the Cybersecurity Regulation. This will include issuing calls for action describing urgent security measures and proposing to the Interinstitutional Cybersecurity Board guidance documents and recommendations addressed to the Union entities, with a view to contributing to the longevity of the Regulation in the dynamic field of cybersecurity.

DIGIT CERT-EU is looking to recruit a Cybersecurity Expert to join our dedicated Security Consultation team in Brussels.

In this role, you will serve as a vital link between DIGIT CERT-EU and the European Union institutions, bodies, offices and agencies (Union entities) and other stakeholders. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the seamless delivery of our cybersecurity services while maintaining a deep understanding of our customers' evolving needs.

Your responsibilities in this role include:

  • Building Strategic Relationships: You build and nurturing strategic relationships with our customers, fostering collaboration and trust as the cornerstones of our success.
  • Dynamic Service Alignment: Your expertise will be of paramount importance in aligning our services with the ever-evolving needs of our Union entities, ensuring that we remain agile and responsive to their cybersecurity requirements.
  • Navigating the Cyber Threat Landscape: You will be guiding the Union entities through the intricacies of the cyber threat landscape. Your assessments will help our customers understand their cybersecurity maturity, implement best practices, and stay informed about emerging threats.
  • Increase cybersecurity level: You will provide expert guidance and support to our Union entities.
  • Strategic Knowledge Sharing: You will actively participate in collaborating closely with Union entities to organise technical workshops and delivering engaging presentations during these events. Your proficiency in translating cybersecurity concepts into practical, actionable insights will serve as a catalyst for informed decision-making and empower our Union entities to fortify their digital defences and in elevating our collective cybersecurity resilience.

Who we look for

You must have:

  • A university-issued diploma or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in cybersecurity
  • Knowledge in building a cybersecurity architecture which is aligned with business requirements
  • Experience in IT system administration and networking concepts
  • Experience with Windows and Linux security
  • Practical knowledge of cloud security, particularly in Azure and AWS environments
  • Concrete experience in creating and presenting cybersecurity awareness material.

You should also demonstrate the following skills:

  • A high level of customer orientation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with a large amount of information in a limited time
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers in an international and multi-disciplinary work environment
  • A high degree of commitment and flexibility
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.

The candidate must hold a security clearance at EU SECRET level or be in a position to be security cleared.

Are you eligible

To apply, you have to:

  • Be a national of one of the Member States of the European Union
  • Be able to provide a certificate of good conduct
  • Have fulfilled any legal obligations related to military service
  • Be able to produce evidence of thorough knowledge of one of the official EU languages (level C1) and satisfactory knowledge of a second official EU language (level B2).

Additionally, to be recruited as a contract agent, you must have:

  • For function groups II and III:
    • a level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma, or
    • a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least three years, or
    • professional training or professional experience of an equivalent level, where justified in the interest of the service.
  • For function group IV:
    • a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least three years attested by a diploma, or
    • professional training of an equivalent level, where justified in the interest of the service.

  • Once you succeed in the CAST test, we will then invite you for a formal interview in view of a possible recruitment.
