IT Security Officer - System and Network Engineer

Contract Agent Function Group IV

COOP - Cooperation
DEVSECOPS

What we propose

DIGIT CERT-EU is seeking to hire a truly motivated Systems and Networks Engineer to join its ISS (IT Support and Services) team.

The primary purpose of this role will be the management and continuous improvement of CERT-EU’s IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities will range from ensuring the smooth operation of the internal helpdesk—providing high-quality technical support to a highly skilled group of IT experts in a multicultural and collaborative environment—to actively contributing to all aspects of IT operations, with opportunities to take the lead on key technical projects.

The selected candidate will work in close cooperation with other CERT-EU teams, contributing to solution engineering, technical product management, and system administration activities.

As part of the duties, the selected candidate will participate in the general set of tasks executed by the team, which include:

  • Infrastructure & Systems Administration: Ensure the availability, performance, and security of CERT-EU's infrastructure by installing, configuring, and troubleshooting networks, servers, and in-house information systems.
  • Proactive Monitoring & Security: Monitor the entire IT landscape and analyse device logs for early anomaly detection, while collaborating with other teams to design and implement security policies and network protections.
  • Strategic Projects & Enhancements: Drive system automation, migrations, and new application deployments. This includes evaluating requirements, analysing server capabilities, and proposing technical enhancements to optimize reliability.
  • Internal IT Support: Manage internal helpdesk operations, oversee specialized ITSM software, handle service requests, and perform diagnostics to provide technical assistance.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and operational guidelines.

This is a highly technical, challenging, and empowering job with enough room for the selected candidate’s competencies to shine in a very friendly, supportive, human and professional environment.

Who we look for

We are looking for a candidate who has at least 3 years prior experience as a Systems and Networks Engineer. Work experience in a complex public sector environment or cybersecurity engineering-team is a great bonus.

The selected candidate must demonstrate knowledge and experience in some or all of the following domains, depending on their professional background. Experience in all areas is not mandatory; however, the ability and motivation to rapidly acquire new skills is essential:

  • Systems Administration (Multi-OS): Proficiency in managing, securing, and supporting Linux operating systems, Windows environments (including Server, Client OS, and Active Directory), and enterprise macOS systems, alongside experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions.
  • Networking & Infrastructure: Strong grasp of the TCP/IP stack, configuration of network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, LAN/WAN/VPN), virtualization platforms (Hyper-V, VMware ESXi, Proxmox), and administration of web/application servers (nginx, Apache, Tomcat).
  • DevOps, Containers & Automation: Skills in Linux shell scripting, configuration management and CI/CD tools (Ansible, Saltstack, Jenkins), source code repositories (Git/Gitlab), and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) including container security.
  • Security & Hardening: Comprehensive understanding of system and application hardening, role-based access control (RBAC), CIS benchmarks, and general cybersecurity standards and best practices.
  • Data, Monitoring & Logging: Experience managing infrastructure monitoring tools (Zabbix, PRTG, Nagios, IP Monitor), database technologies (SQL and NoSQL like MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch), and log management or data streaming platforms (ELK, Apache Kafka, MiniO).
