IICB

The Interinstitutional Cybersecurity Board (IICB) is our governing board. It is responsible for monitoring and supporting the implementation of the Regulation laying down measures for a high common level of cybersecurity at the institutions, bodies, offices and agencies of the Union (The Cybersecurity Regulation).

The IICB was brought to life in 2024 by the Cybersecurity Regulation which provided foundations for its establishment. The IICB consists of representatives of the European Union institutions, bodies, offices and agencies (collectively referred to as the Union entities).

Effectively implementing the Cybersecurity Regulation hinges on supporting Union entities in elevating their respective cybersecurity postures. The IICB monitors the overall progress in the implementation of the Regulation and makes sure that Union entities are equipped with adequate guidance for raising their maturity levels. It also ensures adherence with the Regulation of each Union entity.

Furthermore, as our governing board, the IICB gives us strategic direction and supervises how we achieve our general priorities and objectives.

The IICB also reports annually to the European Parliament, the Council, and the Commission on the progress achieved by Union entities when it comes to their obligations.

Following a strategic discussion, the IICB has identified three strategic objectives for the period 2024-2029:

  • Fostering cooperation of Union entities on the full cybersecurity spectrum
  • Providing strategic direction to CERT-EU and accompanying its development
  • Elevating cybersecurity postures of Union entities to the level of threats they face.
